Animal Taming

Animal taming is a skill related to an avatar’s ability of Taming animals and take control over some of their actions. This is accomplished by whipping a mob with a whip and then feeding it a minimum of 200 nutrio bars, if you feed it less than 200 it will still not obey your commands. While whipped the mob takes damage, decreases the mob’s spirit and increases its respect. This is shown by a set of 3 coloured bars above the mob, with the spirit and respect bar above the health bar.

Attempting to Tame

While taming a mob it may happen that a harder hit will kill the mob, this being the case, the mob can be looted. If the avatar is hit while the mob is being tamed then the respect level will decrease. The spirit bar as the health bar represent a progress in the taming process. Some mobs loose their health faster than their spirit, with others the order is reversed. It can take several whipping sessions for the mob to become tame. Be sure that you do not kill the mob while whipping it and let it regenerate health if needed without allowing it to hit you.

If the conditions are correct, then by using the Attempt tame action from the Actions book the mob will stop attacking and can be fed the nutrio bar. It is recommended to use at least 110 nutrio, less will result in a failure, more can be lost in case of a failed tame. For best results, put the Attempt tame action and the nutrio bars on the quick bar.

Caring for your Pet

After you tame the mob, it becomes a pet. It has 3 bars above the head indicating trust, energy and health. You can use a brush to increase a mob’s trust and encourage it to make complex tricks. The mob can be ordered to move to a new location and perform tricks or greetings. This increases the mob’s experience points. If Logging out or leaving an area, it is recommended that you stable the pet, by using the Stable Keeper NPC. This is done by bringing the mob into a stable and ordering the mob the stable action. A loot window will appear showing you a pet deed consisting of a pod and a miniature mob on its surface. All the pet’s related info can be accessed on the deed. You can trade the pet deed in a PvP Trade.

If you refuse or forget to feed the pet, it will desert you. The pet requires different amounts of food depending on the state and current activity. One energy point corresponds to one nutrio bar. When dismissing the pet, all the nutrio that was not used as energy, returns to the owner in the form of PED, with each point of energy worth 1 PEC. You can tame as many pets as you desire and own any number of them, however, the number of pets you man control at one point in the stable is defined by your Animal Handler skill, and the number of pets you can control in the field is defined by your Animal Tamer skill.

With the current taming systems, when you begin you will only be able to tame Snablesnots (both Male and Female), unless you have very high skills on other areas that are related to taming. When your animal tamer profession level increases, you will be able to tame Exarosaur and Daikibas in addition to higher maturity creatures.

What is a Healer/Medic?

While it sounds like a silly question thats self explanatory it needs to be addressed. A Healer or Medic is someone who has chosen to skill in the Paramedic Profession.

What skills contribute to the Parmedic profession?

The following skills are involved with this profession.

Hidden Skill? Skill
No Intelligence
No Dexterity
Yes Serendipity
No Anatomy
No Diagnosis
Yes Doctor
No First Aid
Yes Medical Therapy
Yes Medicine
Yes Treatment

Hidden skills for this profession are unclocked when you reach a certain level or number of skill points.

Each Skill has a varying % effect on your Paramedic Profession

Why Skill as a Paramedic?

Note:

FAP
First Aid Pack, ANY Healing Device (exception of Mindforce chips) is often phrased as a FAP

There are 2 Main reasons for someone to skill as a Paramedic, but one of the two is seen as the Majority reason.

1)For Personal Use:

This is the most common cause for people to skill in Paramedic. Skilling for personal use allows you obviously to use better “Faps” with greater heals in the persuate of self preservation on calaypso. The primary type of avatar to skill for personal use is a HUNTER.

2)To Offer Services:

This is considered the Primary reason for a Avatar to skill Heavily in Paramedic. A sufficeintly skilled avatar with the right equipment can hire out there Healing services to medium to high level hunters.

What do i need to become a Healer?

Healing chip Method:

Mindforce implant Heal Chip Mind essence Implant inserter (for the implant)

The mindforce implant you need will vary on the level of the healing chip. for a lesser/minor Healing chip a Aa Implant from the Trade terminal is sufficent.

Buy a implant inserter from the trade terminal and use it to insert the implant into your avatars head. Once inserted sell the inserter to the terminal as you have no further need for it.

Put the Healing chip in your personal inventory, and maybe bind it to a key for ease of access.

Buy mind essence, the fuel for the chip and place this in your personal inventory.

Now your good to go!!!

Fap Method:

A Fap 🙂

Suprisingly… all you need is the correct Fap for your level. Bought from other players or the auction. Or even if your skilled enough to craft them… make your own.

Place it in your eprsonal inventory, and again its advised to bind it to a key for ease of access

There are 4 possible responses youll see on a item under the “Learning Period” section to determine if you get a SIB.

Yes
You do still get a SIB with this item
Never
This item doesnt carry a SIB
Not Anymore
You have maxed the SIB learning on this item and need to move onto the next level item to receive a SIB again
Not Yet
You will get a SIB with this item but you havent achieved the level required to use this item or get the SIB

Note: Once the SIB bonus is no longer active on your item e.g it reads not anymore, you can still freely use this item just without the bonus. Note: On non SIB FAP’s the recommended level will be 0. Learning peroid will be Never. However, the Heal Range and Heal interval are still reflective of your ability with the FAP.

Important: Most items that carry a SIB are Limited (L) and cannot be repaired with exception to the Trade Terminal (TT) starter items e.g. Vivo T1

Professional standings and SIB equipment

To look at all of your professional standings and their current levels, open your Actions Book ingame (default key “X”). In this book you will find the star-symbol icon to gain access to the Professional Standings overview. Professional standings relate to the skills you acquire when acting in Entropia. All skills relate to certain professions, and all skills add to your levels with different impact. From this you can view the level of the professions you need to use your SIB equipment Image:Prof_stand.JPGProfessional Standings

How to skill in Paramedic

There are 3 main ways to skill in paramedic:

1)Self Use: During your wanderings aorund Entropia hunting and mining, using a SIB Fap when you need to heal yourself or team mates provides a slow steady method to skill Paramedic.
2)Freebie Faps: A favourite and common pastime for people skilling paramedic especially at low levels (under lvl 11) is to hang around respawns where theres a high death and spawn rate.
For example, Swamp Sweat camp, and heal players as they revive, this is a great way to skill paramedic but you bare the burden of all the decay cost same as the self use method of skilling.
3)Fapping service: This is the least costly for you since your employer will be paying for your decay but this method only really works at lvl 10 upwards because the sk20 (lvl 9, maxed lvl 11)would offer at half complete.. 20-30 heals.
This i consider to be the minimum lvl fap to use for a fapping service,as maxed its heals range 25-35 and is considered a good starting service fap. (This stems from my own experiences offering a service with this fap)

How do i know if my FAP has a SIB (Skill Increase Bonus)

If your not sure what a SIB IS please read *Comprehensive_SIB_Guide

Using this chart tiless made you can see each level required to use the next FAP or Heal Chip.

NOTE: With the exception of the Vivo T1 and Mindforce Healing Chips, ONLY (L) Items on the chart hold a SIB

First Aid First Aid

Fapping Service Etiquette

1)Agree the terms before you start, eg if you get a % of globals or hofs, any fees + decay inc or exc markup
2)Show all your faps to your employer before starting and note the combined TT value
3)IF your Faps are (L) Limited items, come to and agreement with your employer if they’re paying the markup costs or not for new faps… mainly you dont add the markup cost of the fap
4)When fapping stay close to your employer and stay behind him out of his way.
5)Dont go wandering and attract more mobs to your employer, chances are youll die because of this and lose their business.
6)At the end of your employment trade window the same faps to the employer so he can see the decay and pay accordingly.
7)The most important rule is this….. DONT FAP WHAT ISNT NEEDED!

E.G IF hes taken 10hp dmg approx and your fap heals 25-35 hp… dont fap unless u have to. Wait until hes around 25-30hp lost then fap. This ensures you dont fap unecesserily and create more decay than’s needed.

Remember hes paying for your service… notto be ripped off. IF you obide by this rule the chances are he’ll use you in the future.

Crafting

Crafting is the activity of building, constructing and tailoring things in Entropia Universe. It involves taking raw materials (usually found through hunting or mining) and crafting them into a product (like weapons, armor, clothing, furniture). Crafting is considered to be the most expensive profession because of the large quantity of materials you end up purchasing. It is especially expensive for players that are just starting out. Crafting is also the most skill-dependent profession (the more crafting skill points you have – the better the product).

While being an expensive and difficult career path, it is also an essential part of the survival and productivity of the entire community on Calypso. Without craftsmen, miners would have to struggle extracting large deposits with Trade Terminal extractors. Hunters would have to sacrifice the possibility of skill bonuses and use out-of-range weapons. And there would be no furniture to decorate our homes and apartments with, or shelves to display our product on in our stores.

Basics

The crafting process is actually quite simple. You will need: a blueprint (commonly abbreviated to ‘bp’), and the resources described in that particular blueprint (note that all resources are in refined format).

You will always need a matching blueprint book for all your blueprints. All your weapon blueprints will need to be stored in a ‘weapon blueprint book’, all your armor blueprints will have to be stored in a ‘armor blueprint book’, etc… Without a blueprint book, manufacturing terminals will not operate.

Blueprints and blueprint books are purchased and sold separately. Drag the blueprint into the book. When you Double-Click the book, it will open. You can then look at each individual blueprint by Right-Clicking on it. A blueprint will show you which materials you will need in order to manufacture the item and it will also show you its quality rating. This quality rating has influence of your chance of success (your ability to manufacture the item). Your quality rating increases as you accumulate more manufacturing skill points.

One of the main skills involved in crafting is Engineering (found under the “Science” category). Engineering increases the TT value of the items you craft. For example, if the item you construct is worth 1 PED with low skills in engineering, with high skills you might be able to construct the same item but which is worth 10 PED (or more).

If you are a beginner craftsman, it is ideal to stick with one area of crafting. It is most common to begin with components. The reason for this is that you will be able to progress quicker in one area of crafting, while simultaneously building up your overall crafting skills. Begin with Basic Filters (this blueprint can be bought from technician NPCs). Basic Filters require only one Oil and one Lysterium ingot, which makes each crafting attempt cost only 0.05 PED. You will be able to build up your crafting skills very quickly this way. The other areas of crafting are:

  1. Weapons – craft handguns, rifles and swords
  2. Components – craft wires, sensors, etc…
  3. Armor – craft armor parts
  4. Attachments – craft laser sights, amplifiers and scopes
  5. Furniture – craft beds, chairs, etc…
  6. Clothes – craft shirts, pants, hats and shoes
  7. Tools – craft mining tools, scanners and medical equipment

How it works

Once you have your blueprint (in your blueprint book) and all the required materials you’ll need to find a construction machine. There are different construction machines out there, but they will all work for any type of blueprint. For example, you could using a tailoring machine to make weapons. Come up to the machine and Right-Click it. A crafting window will come up.

Your inventory will be automatically opened as well. Double-click your blueprint book, select the blueprint you want to use, and click on it (or drag it to the machine). It will be placed into the blueprint slot of the manufacturing machine. The height of the Success Rate bar will show you your chance of success (commonly referred to as ‘cos’). Needless to say, the higher your chance of success – the better.

The names of the needed resources will be written in the machine as well. Drag them from your inventory into the ingredients window. Next you can choose between ‘quantity’ and ‘quality’. Quality raises the quality rating of the blueprint faster. The chance of success is lower (especially when you’re a beginner), but if you are successful, your item will have a higher TT value. Then you click manufacture over and over again until you have used up all your resources.

After you attempt to craft an item you may encounter one of the following situations:

Crafting success rate based on estimations provided by ETOPIA

Crafting success rate based on estimations provided by ETOPIA

  • Success: You get the item(s) provided by your blueprint, residue, sometimes new blueprints and sometimes precious stones.
  • No success: You don’t get the item(s) you wanted, but either gain resources back, so you don’t loose all of the ones requested by the blueprint, or you get residue back. If you get resources back you can use them for more crafting attempts. Residue can be put into the resource window too, and is used to increase the TT value of the (non stackable) items to roughly the same value as the residue. This is usually done with limited items, but can also used for “regular” items like weapons.
  • Failure: You have failed to manufacture the item and your resources are lost.

After some attempts you will receive metal or matter residue. Metal and matter residue is only useful in further crafting processes. This residue helps increase your item’s condition. When you place the residue in the materials slot, any conditioned item that succeeds will use the residue to improve its condition. Thus items that are limited (L) would require a lot of residue if the manufacturing process is not set to ‘Quality’.

Sometimes you may also receive a new blueprint after a manufacturing attempt. What blueprint you get is determined randomly (or by some secret formula which nobody knows about). Most of the time it will be a blueprint in the same area as you are crafting in (weapon blueprints won’t appear while crafting armor, only other armor blueprints may appear).

Chance of Success

The chance of success (cos) refers to your ability to manufacture the item and is based on the amount of skill points you have in various manufacturing skill areas. Your chance of success increases with more skill points and the blueprint quality rating. The image on the right shows a carefully calculated estimation of your chance of success according to the chance of success bar in the manufacturing window.

Chance of success measures your ability to get some back in return. As you gain more skills in manufacturing you can begin to move the quantity/quality bar to the right, giving your items a higher value. Just like in other professions, this allows more skilled players to manufacture more valuable items and generate more profit.

Blueprint Quality Rating

Each blueprint has its own quality rating. Blueprint quality rating increases your chance of success. Based on latest tests your blueprint quality rating increases will skill levels. The numbers below show how the quality rating increases, and how the increase will slow down over time. These numbers were generated with a Basic Damper blueprint and based on tests with a batch of 5000 Lysterium and 10000 Oil. 3 Basic Damper blueprints were raised until they had 100% quality rating.

Strategies & Tips

  • When manufacturing armor don’t forget about the ‘male’ – ‘female’ selection. Female armors are generally most valuable because there are fewer female avatars in the game and therefore fewer female items manufactured. For the same reason, however, it will be a lot harder to sell the armor, and many F items are sold for close to TT value out of desperation.
  • Start with something that won’t require many resources and preferably resources that cheap as well (eg. basic filters, basic dampers). The problem is that basic filters are of no use to most people, so you will most likely have to sell them to Trade Terminal. In fact, most armors and weapons are hard to sell because the ones found in the Trade Terminal are better than anything that you’ll be able to manufacture. Manufacturing cheap items is a great way to build up skill points.
  • It is recommended that you manufacture cheap items and build up skill points until you get a message that says you have unlocked a new skill called “Blueprint Comprehension”. This will also contribute to increasing your chance of success.
  • If you would like to be skilled in tailoring only, you should begin with Basic Pattern Pants and Shirts and then move on to Reilly Boots.
  • Later when you have developed enough skills in crafting, you can use the slider which mentions ” Quality Or Quantity” to manipulate and create more items of less initial quality or less items of more initial quality.

Tailoring on Planet Calypso allows avatars to build skills in the creation, coloring and customization of clothing garments. Many skilled tailors open shops on Planet Calypso where they sell their creations to other avatars, using the Ad System and community forums to promote their enterprises.

Clothing deteriorates visually as it is used, so keeping your clothes in a good condition is important for any fashion conscious Calypsian.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing is initiated by right clicking on any of the different Manufacturing Terminals and choosing Operate from the interaction menu. In order to manufacture an item you must first have the appropriate Blueprint and required raw materials. The blueprint Item Info

Basic Blueprints can be bought from Technician NPCs. More advanced Blueprints can be found at the auction. Blueprints must then be stored in special Blueprint Books which are available from the Technician NPC. Blueprints can be stored in Blueprint Books by dragging a blueprint into its appropriate book inside your Inventory

Inventory
Default Key: I

Your Inventory is used to store the different items you need to use during your adventures on Calypso. Your items are automatically sorted into compartments like clothing, armor, weapons etc., which can be viewed by clicking the compartment tabs on the right.

The icons in the lower right area can be used to organize your Inventory, display only equipped items, view your avatar or place your avatar in camera focus.

The current weight of your Inventory and your PED account balance are also displayed for convenience. Dont forget that the weight of your Inventory will determine how quickly your avatar can move – something to bear in mind when exploring mutant settlements or dark woods – because there will be times when you want to get moving quickly.

.

Once you have the Blueprint of the item you wish to manufacture you are ready to begin the manufacturing process.

Raw materials can be mined, bought from the auction or shops, or purchased through direct trade with other avatars. Most raw materials will need to be refined in order to be used in the manufacturing process.

Refining

A Refiner tool is used to refine raw materials into useful manufacturing elements, e.g. refining Iron Ore into Iron Ingots. The refiner accepts any number of input materials. When refining, deterioration is calculated on each produced item.

Mining Extended Guide

May 28, 2009 at 8:46 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment
Tags: ,

In Entropia, Mining is one of the main professions. It is generally considered the second most popular activity in the game, second only to hunting, however most players like to combine their hunting and mining runs together for reasons provided later. Mining is generally more expensive than hunting, but can also be more profitable. It is harder to get skill points in mining than hunting.

There are two types of resources in the game which you can mine, Enmatter and Ores. Enmatters are generally liquids, powders and other aqueous things (such as Oil) while ores tend to be stones and metals (such as Gold and Iron). Different tools are used for each of the two types of mining. If you are just starting out with mining, you will find all the equipment you need in the Trade Terminal under “Tools” and then “Mining”.

A set of Enmatter equipment is generally more expensive than Ore equipment, but probes (which are used for Enmatter mining) are half the price of bombs (which are used for Ore mining). Many believe that this makes Enmatter mining cheaper in the long run. Others argue that Ore deposits are larger and have a larger markup price (and therefore more valuable). In reality, both types of mining are probably equal in expense, therefore it probably doesn’t matter which type of mining you start out with.

To become a miner, you’ll first need to buy a set of Mining tools. If you are mining for Enmatter you will need:

  1. An Enmatter Detector
  2. An Enmatter Extractor
  3. Probes

If you are mining for Ores you will need:

  1. An Ore Detector
  2. An Ore Excavator
  3. Bombs

There are also mining amplifiers. As a beginner you will not need them. Amps are generally used after you have several hundred (some say thousand) skill points in mining.

Where to mine

Claiming Rod inside a water basin

Claiming Rod inside a water basin

It is important to note that mining (like many other activities) in Entropia Universe is a matter of speculation, meaning that, nobody really knows how to find the biggest deposits, or any deposits even. You will not find any coal mines or rich veins running long distances through Entropia but one lucky strike could earn you as much as 158,000 PED ($15,000 USD). There have been several theories proposed about how mining deposits are generated, some of which are very mathematically intricate.

If you are after specific resources and not too concerned with paying tax to a land owner you may find the Amethera minerals chart and the Club NEVERDIE Minerals Chart to be invaluable resources. An experienced miner’s favorite claim locations are kept top secret so a chart of where to find certain resources will soon become an important part of your tool set.

If you are going to stay off taxed land areas the first question that aspiring miners usually ask is, “Where do I mine?” The answer is anywhere. You can mine anywhere (except for cement and metal ground which are generally only found inside of cities), although people have found deposits in, or around towns. It is recommended for a new person to start mining on Treasure Island on the Amethera continent because of its profitable mining area and creatures that have a low radius of aggressiveness. Be aware, though, that land areas on Amethera usually come with a tax on mining.

There are several hypotheses for where and when to mine. None of these have been proven solutions, but they are popular choices for mining strategies because they are based (if only loosely) on the actions of other miners in the area.

  1. Mining along the water’s edge. The beach is generally far away from any teleporter and thus believed to be generally secluded from competitor miners. The farther away from civilization and other miners – the better. Needless to say the more out of the way it is, the less people mine there.
  2. Mining inside a herd of mobs. Because a lot of miners don’t carry weapons they will tend to avoid areas with large or dangerous mobs. For this reason a lot of experienced miners will combine hunting with mining. They will destroy the large mob and then mine in the area they were on. They call this area the “Loot Pool”.
  3. Field concentration. If you have found a large resource in a particular area, it is believed that this particular area is rich in concentration (often called ‘veins’). Many will drop another probe/bomb in the same place as their first resource. Some people keep track of all their claims’ locations and return to the same area a few days later to try and mine it again. Generally this is done only if the area had more than one large claim. Some have reported as many as eleven consecutive claims in one spot.
  4. Mining according to skill gain. Some people keep an eye on skill gains (during detonation), because they believe it means theres a deposit near by when you gain skill points.
  5. Charting. Some experienced miners keep track of their every find and then plot their location on the map in order to find patterns and fields. This is tedious work, and there is no evidence to show that it helps find larger resources.

Certain entropia resources can only mined at a certain depth. Your detonator will tell you which depth it can reach. As a beginner you will only be able to find certain resources (like Lysterium). You will need to build up your skills and purchased higher-end detonators and mining equipment in order to mine more valuable resources (like Gold).

If you are looking to mine a particular resource, there are specific tools which can help you pin point approximate locations where this resource is generally found.

Where not to mine

Mining near buildings and extremely steep mountains can be dangerous, as the claim rods can appear where you can’t reach them. Contrary to popular belief, you can mine in water as well. You can drops bombs in water thats walking depth. You can’t drop bombs in deep water, however if you happen to find a claim rod in deep water you can still excavate it.

How to mine

When you decide you have found a good spot, drop a probe (or bomb) by equipping your detonator, and right clicking, as if you were using a weapon. The probe/bomb will drop and after a couple of seconds the screen will shake a little to signal the detonation. Your detonator’s menu will automatically come up shortly after. If it finds a resource, you will hear a beeping, and an arrow on the screen of your detector will point you the direction to your claim rod. There will also be a window that will come up with your resource claim. If the detector finds no resources in this area it will notify you with a message in the detonator menu. At that point you should move on to your next destination and try again. You don’t have to stop running to drop probes and bombs.

There has been some speculation about which direction you need to be facing in order to find a claim. It is believed that you can be facing North and not detect any claims in the area, but if you were to turn around and face a different direction (on the same spot) you could potentially find a deposit. However, just like many other speculations there is no evidence yet to either confirm or deny this claim.

Once you have found a resource, a claim rod will automatically be put in place for you and it will reserve this resource under your name. You can now put away the detonator and equip the extractor. Move close to your claim rod (right up next to it) and right click on it. It will begin drilling and a loot window will pop up showing your resources. Don’t bother closing the window, continue extracting the resource until the claim rod disappears and your resource depletes. You can now close the loot window (there’s no sense closing it each and every time you excavate).

Only the owner of the claim rod can excavate it. So you can, if you wanted to, leave your rod for excavation later on and move on somewhere else. This is not recommended however, because your claim rods will disappear after a certain time period (depending on the size of the deposit). Certain deposits are quite large and they will take you several minutes to extract.

It’s a good idea to carry around an Ore or Enmatter refiner with you. If you are going on a long mining run you will soon start carrying a lot of heavy stones. Refining these stones will decrease their weight and allow you to run faster. Refining doesn’t decrease the TT value of the resource, in fact, most traders will pay higher (usually 1% more) for refined resources rather than unrefined resources.

Fields

Relaxing in front of the Robot Spacecraft

Relaxing in front of the Robot Spacecraft

A field is an area of regular appearing resources (for example the beach west of Fort Ithaca regularly contains Lysterium). Some believe that fields possess both Ores and Enmatter. Others say fields are primarily one kind of resource. Regardless, fields are concentrated locations that remain in their place. It is believed that fields tend to give bigger claims if left alone for awhile, generally 3 days.

Most online Eudoria maps contain field information. There are also maps and guides that show which land areas contain which resources.

Mining on CND

Mining on CND is more condensed than on Calypso. For example your basic ore finder may have a detection distance of 55 meters when used planet-side, up on CND it will be reduced to 22 meters.

Your will find less claims up on CND but they will generally be larger and may require a little more skill to detect!

Strange Signal

While using the detector you may encounter a message saying, “Strange Signal Found”. This means a robot spaceships has landed nearby. The good news is that it contains 50 PED, sometimes with a beacon (worth an additional amount, usually quite large, which is used for robot beacon missions). The bad news is that the spacecraft is usually guarded by two drones. To examine the ship and collect the 50 PED you’ll need to press a button on it labeled “Equipment Component”. This can be done by anybody, so if you are killed and somebody happens to walk by, they can claim the 50 PED prize.

Collecting this 50 PED prize will also be announced as a global in the Entropia client chat window. It is shown as “[User] examined Robot Spacecraft and found something with a value of 50 PED!”. Generally the prize consists of robot beacons and residue.

Mining Deeds

A Mining Claim Deed

Mining deeds can be found in your inventory under “docs”. When you right click a deed you can see all the information about it:

  • the depth
  • the size (in words and in roman number which gives you an estimated TT value)
  • the resource
  • the time left
  • the position (if you are killed you can check back here to find your deposit location again)

Any claims that expire will dissapear from the ground, the deed will be removed from your inventory, and you will recivie a notification of the size and type of claim it was.

Skilling

Improving your mining skill points will improve your detection radius and depth, increasing your chance of finding deposits. Higher skill points will also allow to you find more rare resources. Basic Skills: Mining, Drilling, Geology, Metallurgy, Surveying, Prospecting and Surveying. Hidden Skills: Drilling Expertise, Extraction, Calypso Ground Assessment, Miner, Mineral sense.

For beginners it has been recommended to use the MatterFinder MF-101. It has a 0.1 PEC (0.001 PED) decay per use making it very efficient. Mining for Lysterium or Oil, which are easy to find and are extracted in smaller amounts, is a great way to build up initial skill points.

Entropia Mining Tactics

Straight Line

This is a simple technique used by many miners in Entropia:

  1. Face Due North, South, East or West.
  2. Hit P for your position.
  3. Drop a bomb or probe.
  4. Run in a straight line for over 100 meters.
  5. Over time alter the distance based on your experience and experimentation.
  6. A complex version of this is to try and uncover a wave pattern in the timing.

Double Bombing

This can work and it can also result in a greater expense. When you find a claim drop another bomb or probe in an attempt to uncover a larger find that it may be masking. This mining technique is often used in conjunction with interpreting skill gains.

Carpet Bombing

Mark out an area and strategically bomb the entire area recording your results for a later visit.

Mining Tips

Upgrading your equipment

When you can afford to and skills are established, invest in the following tools for better Depth, Range & Efficiency.

  • OF-105 – Ore Finder
    • 2.1 (pec/click) Decay | Detection Radius 55m | 260+ Depth | Highest Efficiency.
  • MF-105 – Matter Finder
    • 1.8 (pec/click) Decay | Detection Radius 55m | 260+ Depth | Highest efficiency even though the decay is higher.

For Even More Depth – Switch to the Limited (L) Tools

  • MF-213(L)
    • 315+ Depth

You will know when it is time to upgrade your mineral finding equipment when you have ‘maxed-out’. On the info screen check the record for Average search depth: If both figures are equal you have your finder is maxed-out and its time to upgrade!

Interpreting Skill Gains

The skills gains you receive when mining are often used as indicators by miners. Getting a skill gain but no claim is valuable data to a faithful miner looking for a less random approach to Entropia Mining.

Here are a few popular theories:

  • Geology – This is thought to be an eliminating indicator, close but “getting colder”.
  • Prospecting – There is a claim somewhere within a 250 meter radius of where you received the skill gain.
  • Surveying – Interpreted in the same way as Prospecting.
  • Calypso Ground Assessment – This skill needs to be unlocked. Indicates there is a claim somewhere within a 150 meters.
  • Mineral sense – This is a skill that requires a further unlock. A Mineral Sense skill gain is thought to indicated that a claim is very close.
  • Perception – This is thought to be an indicator that you are close to a large claim within a radius of 200 meters.
  • Intelligence – Arguable indicates that a large claim is very close by.

Miners roam the continents on Calypso in search of resources that can be classified into two major groups: ores and enmatters.

There are over 50 ores and enmatters being traded on Calypso today ranging from common to extremely rare resources.

While mining, your avatar will be building a number of skills related to mining that include surveying, prospecting, mining, geology and more. Open the Skills Panel

Choosing a profession

Having the right profession can only be made up by you. Perhaps you want to display powerful armor as you take down large beast? Or mine in the wilderness for rare ores and enmatter? Or crafting new tools for your friends and customers?

Whatever you choose to do, it’s best to know ahead of time of what you want to do, and put much of your resources to it. It takes alot of work and time to even get up in skills in a profession, so be sure it’s what you want to do. A quick rundown..

Hunter

Killing the dangerous creatures of Calypso or in space, you wield either long-ranged weaponry (handguns, rifles) or melee weapons (swords, axes) to defeat your foes. To protect yourself, you need armor of some sort to help absorb the damage.

Requirements

  • Weapon (ranged or melee)
  • Ammunition (if ranged)
  • Armor (the tougher the creature the better armor you must have)
  • FAP or heal chip (optional)

Miner

Less thrilling than a hunter, but still if not more rewarding when you hit a big deposit. There is much to be found, but mining is one of the most difficult professions in the game…as there are no dots on your radar to help you find a hit, you have to trust your gut feeling to find them.

Requirements

  • Detector (to find the deposits)
  • Probes or charges (miner’s ‘ammo’)
  • Excavator (Used to drill up a claim)
  • Refiner (Helps turn your ores and enmatters to useable materials)

Crafter

No heavy duty equipment needed for this job, as you will be making it! However having good engineering skills and high quality rating blueprints are essential for making a profit. Also a must for working with many other types of ores and ematter, and hoping for good turnouts every time.

Requirements

  • LOTS of time (if you have a lot of resources, expect a few hours of crafting)
  • Blueprints (gather from technician or from crafting)
  • Blueprint book (used to store all of a specific type of blueprints)
  • Ores, Enmatter (usually in large quantities for most attempts)

Colour

A good job, but with a catch: your sales and profit are in your customers, as just coloring clothes by themselves will not gain you anything. Also, a lot of paint for skilling up, which incidentally will be rather tedious.

Requirements

  • Omegaton Colorator CCT-1 (from Trade Terminal, required)
  • Bleacher (not completely required, but necessary if you plan on skilling with a limited number of colorable items!)
  • Paint (orange, yellow, and blue are the 3 starting colors…as your skills increase you will unlock more)

Trader

This profession requires a huge dose of patience (and PED to start with), but is one of the few professions in which you can be certain of a profit. Traders usually have arrangements with hunters or crafters to exchange materials and/or PED for the hunters’ loot or crafters’ products, which they then sell to the public. Alternatively, some traders also provide extra services such as bringing fully-repaired tools and PED out into the field where they trade their tools and PED for the miner’s resources or hunter’s loot. This is especially useful for miners who have hit a large resource and find it troublesome to travel back and forth to their claim multiple times.

The distinction between the trader and the reseller is that the trader adds value to their product, which may be through extra services that the trader provides. However, the reseller generally just buys and sells items without adding value to the product.

Requirements

  • PED
  • Rare or popular items (goblin parts for newbies, high-powered rifles for hunters, etc.)
  • Knowledge of current market prices / market situation

Reseller

Similar to the profession of the trader, the reseller’s job requires a equally large dose of patience, and is also another profession in which you can be certain of a profit. Resellers usually buy common or popular items at lower prices, then advertise in crowded spots selling the items in bulk at normal market prices, or put their accumulated stock into shops or the auction.

Pilot

More of a job than a profession, pilots fly passengers to either Crystal Palace Space Station or Club NEVERDIE. Pilots generally charge their customers a fee, which covers their fuel and decay costs as well as a compensation for their spent time.

Requirements

  • A functional Hangar
  • Hangar parts if the hangar is not set up and functioning
  • Crude Oil (used as fuel for the aircraft)

Beautician

While most of the avatar’s looks are usually kept from the time that the avatar was created, some people sometimes wish to change certain elements their avatar’s appearance, e.g. the size of their hair, skin tone, skin colour, etc. In that case, they would visit a Beautician, who can change their certain elements of the avatar’s appearance. It should also be noted that beauty is split into three different categories: hair styling, face sculpting, and body work. As with coloring, the profits come solely from the beautician’s customers.

Requirements

  • An estate of some sort (as to not leave your valuables out in unprotected conditions)
  • Correct furniture: Special chairs and toolkits for the respective category
  • Beauty supplies (hair gel, hair spray, body fat)

Medic

The job of the Medic is to heal wounded avatars. The Medic can be one of the most valuable members of a hunting party. Medic’s often have to put up with cries of “heal plz” (mostly from newbies). However, with a reasonable fap such as an adjusted, improved or modified, Medics can make alot of money being rented for hunts of larger, more challenging mobs.

Requirements

  • A First Aid Pack.
  • Skill ranks in Anatomical/Medical related skills.

Event Manager

Event Managers create the actual events and handle all the fine points (advertising, marketing, etc). Also when an event takes place the participants rate the event, which affect the Event manager’s ‘Event Points’. Good events increase their points, while poorly marketed or location will likely receive lower or poor points.

Event Ticket Agent

The job of a ticket agent is quite simple: stand in one spot (usually a busy city/outpost) and try to sell tickets to an event. While it seems like an easy job, it’s a long and patient wearing occupation.

  • Long periods of time yelling the same info again and again
  • There’s the hagglers who want to pay less for the tickets.
  • There’s the dead times, where no one is around at all.

However if ticket sales are good, the event handler can give the ticket agent a small portion of each sale (like 5 PED for each 25 PED ticket sold). It’s good money in the end.

Others

There are many others professions that are not covered here, each requiring different tools and skills to operate efficiently.

Again, what you do is up to you! 🙂
